The Environment SHSM: Achieving Careers in the Environment (ACE)

Required Components for the Environmental SHSM

  1. A bundle of nine Grade 11 and Grade 12 credits. 
    1. 4 sector-specific credits (related to the environment)
    2. Grade 11 & 12 English; Grade 11 Math
    3. 2 Cooperative Education credits that provide authentic learning experiences in a workplace setting 
  2. Seven sector-recognized certifications and/or training courses/programs: 
    1. 4 compulsory: First Aid, CPR, WHMIS and Global Positioning System (GPS)
    2. 3 electives from a list of additional certifications and training courses/programs
  3. Experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector (ie. Conferences, University Labs, Tour the Canadian Ecology Centre, etc.)
  4. “Reach ahead” experiences connected with the student’s post-secondary pathway 
  5. Development of Essential Skills and work habits required in the sector.
